Mom Survey Version 2.0

I said that I would retake this survey last year and I am a bit late, but whatever, I don't think that my answers have changed much in the 12 days since it became past due. :)

  1. How old is your child/children? 17 months
  2. Girl(s) or Boy(s)? Girl
  3. Bottle fed or Breast fed? Bottle
  4. Are there more children in your future? Probably, can't say exactly when, but more than likely.
  5. Do you stay at home with your kid(s)? Nope, Kevin is home until 2 and then we have a sitter until I get home around 5 on Wednesday through Friday and he is off and home with her on Monday and Tuesday. Works out well
  6. Bedtime (kids...not you!): 8:00p in the bed, asleep or not, but she is usually asleep within 3 minutes of being put in the crib.
  7. Where do your kids go to school/daycare? No where right now. We will put her in playschool 1-2 days a week in about a year or so.
  8. Do you like their school/daycare? Yep, she loves her Daddy too!
  9. Would you ever homeschool? NOPE! I know that some people do it and really like it but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that homeschooling Rory would be doing a serious disservice to her. Beyond the "reading, writing and arithmetic" and social implications to school, there are far too many other positive things that school teaches kids. Mainly, how to adequately function in society, schedules, deadlines, goals and expectations are a part of life, like it or not.
  10. Is college important...will you insist that your child go? Yep, she has to go some where, and get a degree in something. A degree in something is better than no degree at all. By the time that Rory is in college, she will probably have to have a graduate degree to be competitive, so yes, it is in her best interest.
  11. Favorite time of the day: After bath, sitting on the couch drinking her milk getting ready for bed.
  12. Favorite foods: Blueberries, Strawberries, cheese (Or as Rory says: Boo-Bear, Saw-Bear and Sheese)
  13. Kid's favorite happy meal: She has only ever had Chick Fil A nuggets so I guess that is her favorite, but only if you give her Polynesian sauce.
  14. Do you eat organic? Not all the time, we do buy organic when we can.
  15. Does your child have a security item? Not really, but she does love her pacies.
  16. Thumb sucker or Pacie Baby? Pacie baby.
  17. Any extra curricular activities? Nope, just running around the house at this point.
  18. Does your child have any nicknames? Tiny Girl, Sweet Pea, Little Bear, Sugar Plum
  19. Do your children share a room or have their own? She has her own.
  20. Discipline: Time out or Spank? Well neither really right now since she doesn't really get either. We have spanked her hand once or twice, but only for things that would hurt her. Right now, we tend to do more diversion to something else than anything else.
Most of my answers haven't changed at all...interesting. I guess that is good?!? Well, have a good weekend everyone!
Edited to add: Great stuff going on in the comments, I will address #9 more at a later date...I would like to say that I have addressed homeschooling as it relates to OUR family and MY opinions on MY blog. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everyone does what they feel is right for their family. It is interesting to me that it is ok for Homeschoolers (some not all) to spout their superiority to public schoolers, but it is not OK for Public Schoolers to express their opinions as well or at the very least defend their choice of not to homeschool. Interesting!

Sprinkler Fun

Saturday, Rory and I played outside in the sprinkler for a little while...here is a sneak peak.

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day this year was a lot of fun. Originally, Kevin had arranged to take just Rory and I to lunch at Shula’s Mother’s Day lunch however, we quickly decided that we wanted to invite our Mom’s and then we invited Chris (Kev’s brother) and his family and Kev’s Grandmother too. Unfortunately, at the last minute, Kevin’s Dad couldn’t make it, but we had a good time anyway. We made the reservation for 11:00a so that Kevin would have enough time to eat and get home since he works on Sundays. Ordinarily I am not a fan of the buffet, but this is by far the best lunch buffet I have ever had. It was HUGE! It was set up in the lobby outside of the ball rooms at the Wynfrey Hotel (Where we had our reception) and there were 3 different areas plus a special kid’s buffet that was much lower to the ground with kid friendly food and desserts. Strangely, it was the most non-buffet buffet that I have ever been too. None of the typical buffet food was presented, substituted instead for gourmet creations. The food was fantastic, they had everything from waffles, cheese grits and eggs benedict to prime rib, stuffed tenderloin, crab legs and gourmet cheeses. It was wonderful and I think that Rory enjoyed everyone being there. She kept trying to give everyone a high five (or Pi-Pibe as she says it). It was wonderful to sit there with our families and enjoy our meal. Also, it was really neat since we ate in the grand ballroom which is where we had our wedding reception. It was cool to be sitting where, a bit over 4 years ago, we were dancing on a dance floor, and now here we sat with Rory. It really was pretty amazing. To top it all off, we found out the night before that Kevin could be off on that Sunday and it was lovely not having to watch the clock and rush home so that he could get to work. Instead, we spent the afternoon chilling at our house, taking a family nap and enjoying our little family of three. My Mother’s Day presents didn’t come in until yesterday although after such a wonderful day on Sunday, I really didn’t need anything else. I got three books: “How to Raise Girls” by Dr. James Dobson (from Rory), “I just want you to know” by Kate Gosselin (from Ruby and Nellie) and Laura Bush’s Biography (from Kevin). I haven’t started reading any of them yet, but I will probably crack one open today. All in all, it was a terrific Mother’s Day and I absolutely enjoyed having my whole family all together and eating good food. As I said last year, there were times when I didn’t know if I would ever get to celebrate being a Mom and now, here I am, it is wonderful how God works isn’t it?

10 on Tuesday - ON WEDNESDAY!

I forgot yesterday, sorry!

  1. Miss Bee and I were in Decatur this past weekend for my cousin Emily's engagement party in Huntsvegas.  The weather was so bad on Saturday that it was touch and go as to if we would even be able to make it to the party but by the time 7:00p rolled around, everything was good to go.  We had a good time, but I am STILL tired from the weekend.
  2. Kevin couldn't get off of work to go which made me sad.
  3. Rory is loving all this warm weather, she has been enjoying running around the back yard lately.
  4. Yesterday I bought a whale sprinkler for her to play in, but now it is cool outside so she hasn't been able to enjoy it yet.  Hopefully the weather will warm up again soon.
  5. I woke up this morning to the sounds of Rory in her bed counting to 10 and saying all her ABCs.  I admit I just laid there a listened and watched her on the baby monitor for a while as she talked to herself.
  6. Colleen turned the big 3-0 last week...Happy Birthday!  I am right behind you!
  7. We are not doing anything this weekend, thank goodness, I am beat!
  8. Kev and Rory have come and had lunch with me 2 times in the past 2 weeks, love that.
  9. Trying to plan a trip to the beach with Kevin's family.  I can't wait to go!
  10. Now when Rory hears music she starts bouncing up and down and says "I Day-n-sin."

Pics.

There isn't a whole lot going on right now.  I have some type of issue with my left shoulder and back.  I don't think it is anything serious, just "heavy baby" syndrome since that is the side that I usually carry Miss Bee on.  Here are a few pics of our days lately.
We were in Decatur the other week and Rory got to spend some time with 2 of her Great-Grands.  They think that she is pretty special...and they are right!

We went to church with Mom and Tim again.  Rory fell asleep in church this time after Mom sang her solo so I got to sit through a whole church service.  It has been a while since I could do that.  A whole church service+sleeping angelic baby = PERFECTION!
Davis plays baseball at the park at the end of our street and we sometimes go down and watch the game.  Rory enjoys seeing all the people.
Rory watched Mickey Mouse like this for a good 10 minutes the other day.  Apparently watching it right side up got old.

I am including this one just because I like it.

Happy Easter!

The Easter Bunny came to visit and brought Rory a duck and a new book. (And maracas, a cow soundmaker, caramel Cadbury eggs and a pink monogrammed bathing suit)  She was INSTANTLY hooked on everything in the basket that made noise.

She has played with one or both of these all day.  Good job Easter Bunny.
We went to Church with Kevin's family.  Rory only lasted about 20 minutes into the service, but that was OK.  The dress that she is wearing was my 2nd Easter dress and made 100% by hand, not a machine stitch to be seen.  Miss Bee looked like a angel in it.
Not the greatest picture of Kevin and I, but we only seem to get a family picture once a year, so it will have to do!

Happy Easter everyone!  Let us not forget the real reason for the holiday!

Someone is ready for the beach!

I have been waiting for this suit to go on sale at Old Navy for a while.  Tonight before bath time, I tried it on Miss Priss.  I am going to put her initial on the front this weekend, so expect to see it again.

"Mommy, as soon as I find my other shoe I will be ready for the beach"
This little tushie just kills me!  It doesn't get much cuter!
